Leland was cut out of the pine woods across the Cape Fear River from Wilmington, and the pines are the first thing the glass has to deal with. Brunswick Forest, Magnolia Greens, Compass Pointe and Mallory Creek sit under longleaf and loblolly pines that drop a yellow-green pollen from March into May that coats every pane, screen and sill in the community, then sap and needles for the rest of the year.
